EXCALIBUR (UK) LTD

During 2002, BBIC’s Innovation Services Division was sold on to Excalibur (UK) Ltd as a separate business.

Excalibur (UK) Ltd, in which BBIC retains a minority shareholding, offers structured Innovation Programmes towards the establishment of new enterprises (METEOR and SHIELD), SME new product development (SWORD SME), innovation techniques focused upon large organisations (Corporates and other Agencies). Programmes and Consultancy and Training Services are customised to meet the needs of organisations seeking development and growth through innovative new products and processes, and seek to develop capacity for continuous innovation as part of the process.

THE GENESIS PROGRAMME

The GENESIS programme at BBIC is part of the Enterprising Barnsley Initiative which is supported by Yorkshire Forward and part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.  The programme provides a dedicated facility to support the creation development and growth of 10 businesses per annum in growth sectors/knowledge based industries.  Programme participants benefit from facilities at BBIC and intensive business support for 4 months prestart where appropriate and 8 months post start or 12 months development support for existing early stage businesses.

In addition to office space, desk, chair and IT facilities, participants have access to a dedicated Genesis mentor and benefit from a management accounting service, business skills programme and technical support service for the initial 12 months of the programme followed by 12 months ongoing mentoring support following their graduation from Genesis.

The initial 12 months of the programme is based at BBIC while the second 12 months is provided on an outreach basis to ‘graduates’ of the programme provided they remain located in Barnsley.
